Jens Jonsson
Jens Jonsson is a Swedish writer, director and showrunner working across feature films, premium television drama and international commercial campaigns. Known for emotionally driven storytelling, visually ambitious filmmaking and strong actor collaborations, his work often explores themes of power, masculinity, identity, class and contemporary Scandinavian society.
Jonsson first gained international recognition with his debut feature The King of Ping Pong, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and established him as one of the most distinctive Nordic filmmakers of his generation. Since then, he has built a career moving freely between intimate character studies, large-scale thrillers, satire and commercially successful television drama.
His television work includes the Kristallen-awarded cult comedy phenomenon Grotesco, the thriller series The Hunters, the critically acclaimed drama Slutet på sommaren and the financial thriller Fartblinda, which Jonsson has both written and directed. Across multiple seasons, Fartblinda has become one of Sweden’s most successful contemporary drama series, praised for its emotional realism, political edge and cinematic storytelling.
In 2026, Jonsson released the large-scale sci-fi thriller series We Come in Peace starring Fares Fares and Evin Ahmad. The series combines psychological drama, political suspense and science fiction against a distinctly Scandinavian backdrop.
Alongside his work in film and television, Jonsson has directed award-winning campaigns for international brands including IKEA, Samsung and ICA Banken. In 2026, he won the prestigious Guldägget for the ICA Banken campaign “Ät dig till ett bättre bolån”, recognized for its cinematic direction, humor and emotional precision.
Born in Umeå in northern Sweden, Jonsson developed an early fascination with environments shaped by contrasts: endless summer light, long winter darkness, isolation and intimacy. Those influences continue to define the atmosphere and emotional tone of his work.
He studied at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design Stockholm (Konstfack) and the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts (formerly DI).
